Mr. Mayor, Who Are You Calling Frivolous?
On November 1, 2007, the Mayor of Allentown issued an e-mail to citizens in and outside of the City of Allentown endorsing several of his party’s candidates. In an act of desperation, Mayor Pawlowski mischaracterized as “frivolous” Michael Schware’s involvement in two citizens’ petitions challenging the legality of the Mayor’s processes and procedures regarding: (a) the passage of the EMS tax in Allentown and (b) an admitted mathematical error in Allentown’s bond refinancing program.
By definition, the term “frivolous” means “of little or no weight, worth, or importance; not worthy of serious notice”. Perhaps Mayor Pawlowski should do a better job of choosing his words rather than spewing untrue statements in the fruitless interests of harming Mr. Schware’s reputation.
Consider the following:
1. On March 27, 2006, the Honorable Edward Reibman issued a final Order in the “EMS lawsuit” stating that the issue (Ordinance No. 14409) “failed to conform and is therefore ‘unlawful.’”
2. The Allentown City Solicitor, whom gets paid a salary, was not counsel in the case, but rather, the City hired outside counsel on an hourly fee basis to the tune of $50,000 taxpayer dollars to fight a “frivolous lawsuit”;
3. The Petitioners in the lawsuits included over 100 Democrats, Independents and Republicans but Mayor Pawlowski propagandizes only Mike Schware’s involvement;
4. Mayor Pawlowski’s e-mail was sent and received by many individuals who do not live in Allentown and thus cannot vote in the City Controller election;
5. On September 5, 2007, the Allentown Morning Call reported that Mayor Pawlowski admitted the existence of errors in the bond refinancing plan and blamed the errors on a misplaced “slide” in his “power point” presentation;
6. Mayor Pawlowski’s misplaced “slide” amounted to an approximate mistake of $20,000,000.00 on the books and
7. Mayor Pawlowski personally funded a significant portion of Mike Schware’s opponent’s campaign.
It seems that the Mayor of Allentown has chosen propaganda over truth. Such an act of desperation should not go unnoticed. Ask yourself why the Mayor of Allentown would choose this course of action. Perhaps it is out of fear that his candidate may not win and instead the City will be blessed with an independent fiscal thinker like Mike Schware as Controller.
When you go to the polls on November 6, 2007, respond to Mayor Pawlowski’s false and biased statements against our friend Mike Schware by voting for Mike for City Controller.
